A partner in collaborative projects

Biotrend participates in international research and development consortia contributing to solving the challenges of the realization of the promises of the bioeconomy.

Production of different biopolymer grades to integrate advanced composite materials, from lignocellulosic feedstock. Biotrend performs bioprocess optimization and scale-up and the integrated process conceptual design. It involves 14 partners from the industry and academia and is co-financed by the EU.

Implementation of a cascading concept for the valorisation of agro-industrial by-products to obtain bioproducts like plastics, nutraceuticals / platform chemical succinic acid and enzymes for detergent applications. Biotrend performs the optimization and scale-up of the process for the production of succinic acid. It involves 16 partners from the industry and academia and is co-financed by the EU.

O4S (Organic for Surfactants)

Production of natural surfactants and of certified organic origin. Biotrend participates in the proof-of-concept and validation of the developed fermentation-based technologies. This research for SMEs and SME associations project, co-financed by the EU, involves 13 partners.

Development of a continuous process to produce biopolymers (PHB and PBS) from wood sulphite pulping process. Biotrend performs the optimization of PHB production process and the scale-up of the PHB and PBS production processes. The 16 partners involved cover the entire value chain and the project is co-financed by the EU.

Exploiting marine genomics, from gene to bioactive product, for an innovative and sustainable European blue biotechnology industry. Biotrend performs the translation of the findings based on marine microorganisms from lab to pilot scale. It involves 16 partners and is co-financed by the EU.

Development of 2nd generation biorefineries for the production of dicarboxylic acids and bio-based polymers derived thereof. Biotrend performs the development of downstream processing protocols and contributes to the translation to demonstration scale. It involves 8 partners and is co-financed by the EU.

Provide new technologies for the control of biofouling and reduce hydrodynamic drag by integrating multiple technology concepts as surface structure, sugarcane chemistry and bio-active/bio-based fouling control methodologies into one environmentally benign and drag-reducing solution.
