Delivering sustainable value

Biotrend carries out research and develops in-house projects aiming at the production of biochemicals for which a clear market demand has been identified. Particular focus is given to complex products that usually require multistep chemical production and that Biotrend is able to produce in one fermentation step. R&D-driven business

Rather than using genetically modified microorganisms in which multi-step pathways have been cloned, Biotrend explores opportunities provided by Nature’s microbiodiversity, developing novel processes using non-conventional but robust microbial strains that do not compromise the long term performance of the scaled-up processes. Biotrend offers consulting and contract research services. Past achievements include the development of a bioprocess for the L-lactic acid production from cheese whey, the development of a whole-cell biotransformation process for a leading biochemical multinational, the conceptual design of a process unit to produce a bio-based pesticide, the 10-fold increase in productivity of the production of cell extracts from marine bacteria and the development of an integrated production and purification process for biopolymers from lignocellulosic hydrolysates.
