Bruno Sommer Ferreira - Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer; Chem. Eng., Ph.D. Biotechnology:

Bruno's scientific carreer gives him an extremely broad view of bioprocesses. He worked in areas as diverse as microalgae culturing, the monitoring and optimization of the microbial production of recombinant proteins and the development of culture systems for stem cells. Bruno is co-author of over 30 publications and member of several scientific societies. Bruno worked as Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona and as consultant for private companies. He is advisor to national and international entities and projects on Industrial Biotechnology, contributing also in diverse discussion panels of the European Commission and the OECD. Bruno was a co-founder of Biotrend and is now the main responsible for the company strategy.

Frederik van Keulen - Founder, Member of the Board and Chief Scientific Officer; Molecular Sciences Eng., Ph.D. Biotechnology:

Frederik graduated in Molecular Sciences Eng. at the Agricultural University of Wageningen (The Netherlands). He first came to Portugal through the Erasmus Program starting his research on biocatalysis and biotransformation systems. During his PhD he used his skills in Organic Chemistry to develop non-conventional biocatalysis systems for the production of terpenoids and implement countless analytical assays. As post-doc researcher, Frederik started his work on the production of carotenoids, a sub-class of terpenes, by non recombinant bacteria. Frederik has also worked as consultant. Frederik was a co-founder of Biotrend and is responsible for its R&D projects.

Nuno Macedo - Member of the Board; BSc. Business Management:

Nuno graduated in Business Management at ISLA. On 1996 he joins PME Investimentos, as controller. Since then Nuno continuously evolved to tasks, with an increasing degree of complexity and responsability, involved in the management of Funds managed by Inovcapital (formerly PME Investimentos). He represents Inovcapital in various managing bodies of invested companies. Nuno is a member of the Biotrend board of directors, representing Inovcapital.

Francisco Banha - Chairman of Shareholder's Assembly; BSc. Business Management, MBA:

Francisco is the face of entrepreneurship in Portugal. He founded Gesventure, the first Portuguese venture catalyst and helped raising funds for several start-ups, he is also founder and president of the Business Angels Club and the Federação Nacional de Associações de Business Angels. He is consultant and teaches in the areas of venture capital, entreprenuership, corporate finance and management.
