BUGWORKERS - Optimization and Scale-up of the Production of Biopolymers Different biopolymer grades, suitable to integrate advanced composite materials to produce durable bio-based materials, will be produced from lignocellulosic feedstock derived from agro-industrial by-products and wastes. The sugar fractions obtained from the combined chemical breaking and enzymatic hydrolysis of raw materials will be used as fermentation substrates and in optimized high-density cultivation strategies with increased production yield and productivity. Biotrend will perform the optimization and scale-up activities and the integrated process conceptual design. This work is performed in cooperation with 14 partners from the industry and academia and is co-financed by the European Commission. For more information go to: www.bugworkersproject.eu
TRANSBIO - Production of products and materials from agro-food wastes The main aim of TRANSBIO is the implementation of an innovative cascading concept for the valorisation of sub-products from fruit and vegetable processing industry using environmental friendly biotechnological solutions like fermentation and enzyme-conversion strategies to obtain valuable bioproducts like plastics (PHB), nutraceuticals / platform chemical succinic acid and enzymes for detergent applications. Biotrend will perform the optimization and scale-up of the process for the production of succinic acid. This work is performed in cooperation with 16 partners from the industry and academia and is co-financed by the European Commission. For more information go to: www.transbio.eu
O4S - Biosurfactant production for applications in natural, organically-certified products Different biopolymer grades, suitable to integrate advanced composite materials to produce durable bio-based materials, will be produced from lignocellulosic feedstock derived from agro-industrial by-products and wastes. The sugar fractions obtained from the combined chemical breaking and enzymatic hydrolysis of raw materials will be used as fermentation substrates and in optimized high-density cultivation strategies with increased production yield and productivity. O4S (=Organic for Surfactants) has been primarily designed to address a critical necessity of the European Natural Cosmetic Sector which is lacking a sustainable source of surfactants (Surface Active Agents) that can be considered natural and are of certified organic origin to meet the growing market demands. Biotrend will participate in the proof-of-concept and validation of the developed fermentation-based technologies. This work, a research for SMEs and SME associations project, is performed in cooperation with 13 partners and is co-financed by the European Commission.
